house Henderson, Bloemfontein

House Henderson is situated in the Woodland Hills Wildlife Estate in Bloemfontein. The clients brief requested a contemporary, open plan house utilizing the 180 degree view to the West of the site.

The house was designed to utilize the western views by creating a large roofed-over patio, providing protection from the harsh, Free State, summer sun. This protected vantage point allowed an unobstructed view over the adjacent green belt area.

The design concept was to create a bridge building, supported on both sides and spanning the full length of the open plan living/dining room. The voids are closed by fold-away doors allowing a north-south ventilation path.

The Ground floor is designed around an open plan living/dining room and also houses a double volume staircase lobby, guest ablutions, patio and swimming pool.

The First floor accommodation includes a main bedroom; two guest’s bedrooms all furnished with en-suite bathrooms and balconies. The sundowner deck overlooking the estate allows for a sheltered vantage point.

The house was completed in 2009.
